What is a Head Spa and where does it come from?
Head Spa is the latest craze among women – a trend that has only just arrived in Hungary, yet it is already hugely popular with the ladies. But what is it, and why do women love it so much?
Head Spa, or “head bath” in Hungarian, is a blend of hair care and massage, targeting the head and the area around it specifically, and besides being incredibly calming and stress-relieving , it also has serious hair-care benefits .
On social media we see more and more of the iconic golden, semicircular head shower, which is one of the foundations of the Head Spa treatment.
Although it is indeed based on a deep-cleansing and very pleasant hair wash, it is much more than that. Not only because it includes massage elements, but because it is a personalised session that you won’t get in any hair salon.

Head Spa is Japanese in origin, with roots in shiatsu facial massage and onsen bathing culture, so you could say that its 3 main elements are hair washing, steaming and massage.

As the founder and as a man, I was astonished to find that during my 50-minute Head Spa treatment, for 16 minutes my smart ring registered sleep, even though I was awake the whole time.

Unlike most salons, we separated the waiting area and the reception, and even put them on a different floor, so at MOSAIC the upstairs is home only to the Head Spa’s closed, spacious and private treatment rooms, where the silence, soft music and lighting all serve complete relaxation and arrival.
The next lesson we learnt from our market research was that it really matters who performs the treatment. We had some good experiences, but there were also salons where we didn’t feel the true power of touch. That’s why at MOSAIC Head Spa we only employ experienced massage therapists whose touch truly heals, and who have also completed the basic trichology training needed for a complete Head Spa treatment. We think it’s important that our therapists see their work as a vocation and put their heart and soul into it, because the therapist’s mood rubs off on the guest. The third thing we do differently is the blow-dry at the end of the Head Spa session. We offer a professional, salon-quality blow-dry at the end, which makes guests feel as if they’ve just stepped out of their hairdresser’s.
Few people know it, but a Head Spa treatment is also a great idea before an important event, meeting, photo shoot, party or date – besides feeling refreshed, you leave with a hairstyle few people can achieve at home.
Our guests can ask for a straight or even a wavy blow-dry, so the finishing “blow-dry” is as good as a complete salon finish, for which many hair salons charge as much as 10,000–15,000 HUF for a blow-dry.

But what exactly does a treatment look like, and what elements does it consist of? Let’s take a look:
How much does a Head Spa treatment cost at MOSAIC, and what does it involve?
A 50-minute MOSAIC “Hair” Head Spa treatment starts with a micro-camera scalp analysis, during which we determine your scalp type and condition:
- dry / dandruff
- oily
- hair loss
- inflamed
The camera analysis will determine how your Head Spa treatment is structured, and which bespoke, freshly mixed blend of Oxygeni natural products we’ll use on your scalp and facial skin – whichever nourishes it best. A dry scalp needs hydrating, with oily hair the goal is to optimise sebum production, while hair loss can be improved with intensive deep cleansing, circulation-boosting massage and complementary oxygen therapy.
After the camera analysis comes the iconic Head Spa golden halo – the circular water-jet hair wash with Oxygeni shampoo and a deep-cleansing scalp wash.
The hair and face masks are applied to the cleansed scalp and face, delivered into the deeper layers of the skin with steam and various massage techniques, and then we stimulate circulation by hand and with tools.
The gentle warm-water hair wash, the continuous gentle touch and the engagement of the senses with scents, music and light are incredibly calming on their own, but that’s not all.

How often should you have a Head Spa?
I'd say that if you can, it's worth coming weekly, because that way you can keep up the hair-care and stress-relieving effects continuously.
Of course, a monthly or every 2–3 months Head Spa treatment has plenty of benefits too; everyone has to decide for themselves.
Those who have some kind of hair problem (I don't mean more serious trichology conditions such as seborrhoea, psoriasis or inflammation) may benefit from having the first 3–5 sessions a little closer together, as a “course”, after which repeating the session every 1, 2 or 3 months may be enough.
